Most of these positions are brand new so gives the perfect opportunity for your to make your mark on the charity. Use your experience and skills to help drive and support the charity’s strategic direction and on-going success, making a real difference to the future of the charity.

Don’t worry if you have never been a trustee before. It can seem daunting, but we are a really friendly board and full mentioning and support will be provided for you every step of the way.

About Meade Hill Shul
We are a growing modern orthodox Shul (Synagogue) in North Manchester. This is a very exciting time for Meade Hill Shul as the charity is going through an unprecedented period of growth. To support this we are building a professional and dynamic board of trustees. The charity has just started a multi million pound redevelopment project and have aspirations to be a real driving force for the Jewish community in Manchester.

FUND RAISER
Investigate and pursue grants and awards to benefit the charity.
Create and encourage a culture of donating from within the charity’s membership.
Work closely with the events co-ordinators (internal & external) to make sure that events are funded correctly.
Create funding to enable the long term creation of a fundraising team.
Write and deliver the fundraising strategy.
MEMBERS
Create a membership recruitment and retention policy.
Membership subscription collection. Work with the bookkeeper to achieve at least 90% return on membership fees.
Work with the Rabbi to make sure that all members are contacted on a regular basis.
Keep membership information up to date.
Welcome new families to the area.
Deal with membership queries that are escalated by the admin team.
Membership complaints.
TREASURER
Oversight of budgets, internal and external financial reporting, alerting the Board to key matters.
Ensuring that the financial resources of the charity are sufficient to meet its present and future needs.
Oversight of the development and implementation of appropriate financial policies, accounting procedures and controls and risk management processes, to safeguard the charity’s assets and financial position.
Ensuring the Board is aware of its financial duties and responsibilities.
Advising on the financial implications of the organisation’s strategic plans.
Ensuring the Charity complies with relevant fiscal requirements.
Hands on role will include the monthly Payroll and managing the Bookkeeper position.
HON SECRETARY
Liase with the Chair to plan all meetings involving the Board of Trustees.
Receive agenda items from Board members.
Circulate agendas and reports.
Take minutes for all meetings that involve the Board (estimated to be 4 per year plus the AGM but could be monthly as work dictates).
Circulate approved minutes.
Check that agreed actions are carried out.
Make AGM minutes available on the Shul’s website.
Proactively keep records of all strategic documentation.
VOLUNTEERS
Develop and implement a volunteer recruitment strategy that will deliver an extensive pool of diverse and engaged volunteers.
Develop a volunteer induction programme to maximise engagement and contribution of each volunteer.
Find and introduce new volunteers to the charity to create a highly positive volunteering experience.
Promote volunteering, internally and externally in collaboration with the team of volunteers, to ensue that the impact of volunteers is celebrated.
Create a self sustaining team of volunteers.
LAND & BUILDING
Ensure the fabric of the buildings both externally and internally are maintained and serviced to a high standard
Oversee maintenance budgets and all major works.
Design and implement health and safety policies.
Design and implement a maintenance programme.
Carry out inspection audits and maintain inventories.
Conduct inspections of the building fabric and take appropriate action when required.
Ensure fire and other evacuations are carried out on a regular basis in accordance with the health and safety requirements.
To liaise with local authorities as appropriate.
Have overall responsibility for the roles of sexton and caretaker.
DIGITAL
Strategy
Help the board consider digital’s role across all of the charities strategy.
Understand and challenge the scale of the charity’s ambition.
Inject IT and digital into non-digital conversations eg risk, hiring.
Make the case for investment in skills and digital processes, from ensuring all staff have essential skills through to implementation of processes and systems.
Scrutiny
Think about digital in the context of the charity’s risk register, understanding that not changing is also a risk.
Oversight of all digital activity in the charity and where the opportunities and risk are.
Ensure the charity is collecting timely data to enable evidence-based strategic decisions.
Ask questions that probe into the procurement process.





More About the Roles
We are a small charity so these roles will initially be hands on. As the charity grows the aim is to create a team to take over the hands on functions enabling the successful candidate to focus on strategic goals.

The successful candidate will serve initially for up to three years with the potential to be reappointed for up to a further two terms of three years after that. This is an unpaid role however reasonable fees and expenses will be paid.
